We currently have the following vacancy: OPERATIONS ASSISTANT Attractive Salary + Excellent Pension Package & bonus scheme The Operations Assistant position is an integral member of the operations team, primarily required to operate waste cranes and the waste bunker within health, safety and environmental guidelines and to be available for other operational requirements such as: Monitoring, recording and input of technical data Conducting regular plant checks, having the ability and knowledge to recognise problems with plant and equipment. Report defects and changes to plant conditions as appropriate. Receiving consumable deliveries such as lime, carbon, ammonia and supervising collections of APCr. Conducting water samples and analysis Reporting of operational defects to the Operations Support Engineer and/or the Shift Team Manager The Operation Assistant position is a pathway to a career within the operational shift teams and further training to support this will be available to the right person. This will include: Thorough on the job training City and Guilds Energy Recovery Plant Operator training The ideal candidate will preferably have gained technical qualifications through further education and some career experience of a technical nature would also be an advantage. You will be required to be flexible in the job role learning and operating new plant and equipment as required. This is a key role ensuring the effective, safe, and compliant handling of waste services, including supervising site staff, coordinating waste movements, and ensuring adherence to environmental and health & safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Supervise daily operations, ensuring efficient and compliant waste handling and processing. Lead and motivate a team of operatives, providing support, direction, and training as required. Conduct daily site checks, safety briefings, and toolbox talks. Ensure all waste is managed according to environmental legislation and company procedures. Monitor site performance and report on productivity, issues, and incidents. Liaise with contractors, hauliers, and other stakeholders to coordinate collections and deliveries. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with duty of care, permits, and licenses. What We're Looking For: Proven experience in waste management, environmental services, or a similar operational role. Strong leadership and people management skills. Solid understanding of health & safety and environmental compliance. Excellent communication, planning, and organisational abilities. Ability to work flexibly, including early mornings, weekends, or shift patterns if required. COTC level 4, IOSH / NGC or other relevant qualifications (desirable).
